The New Beetle convertible is sportier, as is the hard-top version. It is streamlined and slightly more modern looking. A new bumper design flows down from the hood and trunk and wraps unobstructed around and into sharper wheel arches. Turn signals in the front bumper are slimmer, and new, more oval-shaped headlamps are up on the fenders. In back, new tail lamps feature small white circular back-up lights inset at the bottom of the larger, red tail lamp circles.
The arch fenders offset a relatively flat mid-body, giving off a “hunkered down,” more aggressive, slightly masculine feel to the New Beetle convertible. Even a seemingly simple change to an oval fuel filler door from a previously rectangular closure adds to the overall new look.
