Recalled: 2000 Kawasaki Ninja

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today released a list of auto safety recalls announced in November and December 2000 and urged consumers to have the problems fixed promptly

Models: Kawasaki ZX1200-A1 Ninja Year: 2000 Kawasaki ZX1200-A1L Ninja Year: 2000

Number Involved: 4,506

Dates of Manufacture: December 1999 - June 2000

Defect: On certain motorcycles, a leaking vent pipe in the fuel tank can allow fuel to drain onto the ground. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will insert a supporting brace into the tank to dampen any effects of vibration on the vent pipe. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began Dec. 28, 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Kawasaki at 1-949-770-0400. [NHTSA Recall No. 00V365]

Dates of Manufacture: December 1999 - March 2000

Defect: On certain motorcycles, the fuel gauge and low fuel warning system may not provide an accurate indication of low fuel levels. The operator could run out of fuel without warning, causing the operator to become distracted, or to slow unexpectedly in traffic, creating the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel gauge sending components. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began Dec. 28, 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Kawasaki at 1-949-770-0400.
