Spartan Motors, Inc.

Models:

Spartan Gladiator Years: 1999-2001 Spartan MetroStar Years: 1999-2001 Spartan Advantage Years: 1999-2001 Low-Profile Years: 1999-2001 Spartan K-2 Years: 1999-2001

Number Involved: 780

Dates of Manufacture: July 1999 - February 2001

Defect: On fire trucks and motor home chassis equipped with certain TRW tie rod assemblies built with 24-DL ball sockets, the tie rod ball-socket bearings have a below-specification case depth and/or hardness, which can lead to premature wear of the socket. If this condition occurs, the driver can lose control, possibly resulting in a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace all defective ball sockets and/or drag links with new components. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification was to begin during March 2001. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Spartan at 1-800-722-3025.
