Alliance to Save Energy Commends President Bush

       Statement by Alliance President David M. Nemtzow April 26, 2001

    WASHINGTON, April 26 The following is a statement by
Alliance to Save Energy President David M. Nemtzow:

    "The Alliance to Save Energy commends President Bush for his recent
remarks to media on the need for better fuel efficiency for vehicles and
developing new technologies to save energy.  We encourage the Administration's
energy task force to recognize the need for increased fuel efficiency for
cars, SUVs, and light trucks as a way to extend our nation's energy supply.

    "As gasoline prices hit $2 a gallon -- much higher than April government
projections -- approaching the heaviest summer driving season, it is clear
that we must look not only to increasing energy supplies but also to using
energy efficiency and basic energy consciousness as a way out of this energy
crisis."
