Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 21 The effects from last week's
National Tragedy will negatively impact North American vehicle production
again this week, but output will improve to 318,195 units from last week's
293,242 according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 11,546,995 vehicles, down 12.8 percent from like-2000's pace.

    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 227,987 vehicles this
week, up 8.4 percent from the 210,405 cars and trucks built last week.  To
date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 8,318,792 units,
down 13.6 percent from the 9,623,353 vehicles built in like-2000.

    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 52,428, a 16.7
percent increase from the 44,908 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,884,523 units, down
15.3 percent compared to the 2,224,523 vehicles produced in like-2000.

    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 37.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 22.7 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.6 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.6
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.5 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.7
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.2 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.9 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.9 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.6 percent.
