DeMattia Announces the Start of the Expansion At Motown Harley-Davidson

    PLYMOUTH, Mich.--Sept. 28, 2001--DeMattia Group, one of southeastern Michigan's leading design/build firms, has started a renovation and addition on Motown Harley-Davidson in Taylor, Michigan.
    The 15,200 SF addition will expand the service and storage areas as well as the showroom. The current offices are being moved up to the mezzanine area in order to expand the showroom that holds over 250 bikes. With the addition, the total square footage will be 43,748, which includes 8,000 SF of new mezzanine and a service area expansion from 8 bays to 15 double bays.
    According to Ron Buchbaum, general manager of Motown Harley-Davidson, they will have a tremendous amount of space to store bikes for the winter. "We are very excited," he said. "DeMattia Group designed an innovative addition which reflects our energy and will help us accommodate more customers."
    Motown Harley is now offering the "Riders' Edge" motorcycle-training course, which will be taught by the Dearborn Heights Police Department.
    A state-of-the-art dealership, the Taylor facility is one of the top five in the country. The overall design concept for the building is a reflection of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle itself. The entry is made to reflect power, speed and sleekness. The showroom floor and ceiling represents the wheel of a motorcycle and the office portion represents the engine. "That part (the office or engine) is the heart of the motorcycle and the heart of the operation," said Laura McElheron, project architect for DeMattia.
