Eaton Carbon Fiber Limited Slip Differential Featured On New Kia SUV

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--Feb. 8, 2002--Eaton Corporation today announced that it is providing Carbon Fiber Limited Slip Differentials for the new 2003 Kia Sorento sport-utility vehicle. The new Sorento's worldwide debut was yesterday at the 2002 Chicago Auto Show.
The Eaton Carbon Fiber Limited Slip Differential will provide the Sorento with enhanced traction and steering performance for both on and off road use. The Carbon Fiber Limited Slip Differential manages torque of rear wheels and transfers power to where it is needed. Eaton's exclusive design incorporates Eaton patented, woven pyrolytic carbon fiber that provides the differential with superior friction characteristics, enhanced durability, and smoother vehicle cornering, than traditional limited slip differentials that use steel or paper surfaces.
Jeff Phillips, Eaton Torque Control Products Division's International Sales and Marketing Manager, explained the importance of the Kia business. "We are proud of our history and strong relationship with Kia. Kia was the first Korean auto manufacturer to offer Limited Slip Differentials, and chose Eaton as their supplier from the inception. The 1989 Kia Rocsta was the first vehicle equipped with this option. Since then, Eaton has provided Kia with Limited Slip Differentials for many of its SUVs and light trucks. We believe that the premium quality and performance of our Carbon Fiber Limited Slip Differential greatly complements Kia's aim of providing high-quality, high-value vehicles."
Eaton has been focusing its automotive strategy and resources on fuel economy, safety and environmental impact. Other examples include advanced gasoline vapor controls, common rail Diesel fuel controls, power on demand variable valve actuation, and ELOCKER(TM) electronic locking differentials.
