Hyundai Ordered to Recall EF Sonata Models

Korea Times reported that Hyundai Motor was ordered Saturday to recall LPG-fuelled EF Sonata models for defects.

According to the Ministry of Construction and Transportation yesterday, the model's bearings in its cooling fan motor burns out whilst running. The radiator fan is essential to cool down the engine and prevent the engine overheating.

The models subject to the recall are 100,997 EF Sonata units that were produced between January and June 1999.

Customers who drive the LPG sedan can contact one of Hyundai's nationwide branches by phone (080-200-2000) or any one of the automaker's repair centers for one year from today.

Hyundai first recalled the vehicle for the defect in January 1999 and replaced the problematic part, but the replaced components are reported to have the same trouble.

``As the automaker has attempted to repair the recurrent defect on the sly, we have warned Hyundai against covering it up and ordered a recall,'' said an official at the ministry.
