Ford to recall 417,037 minivans for wiring
DETROIT, May 30 Reuters reported that the Ford Motor Co. will recall 417,037 Windstar minivans to fix a wiring problem that could lead to a fire, U.S. auto safety regulators said on Thursday.
The recall, involving 2000 and 2001 model year Windstars, will plug a gap in the right rear passenger compartment. The gap could become contaminated with dirt or water, causing a short circuit in an electrical connector.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that short circuit could lead to a failure in the lighting system, electrical connections for a trailer, and possibly a fire.
Dealers will inspect the minivans and offer free repairs.
