Energy Secretary Abraham to Deliver Keynote Address at 13th Annual Energy Efficiency Forum

WASHINGTON, June 3 -- U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham will discuss the federal energy landscape in the keynote address at the 13th annual Energy Efficiency Forum June 12 at the National Press Club.

This year's Forum, "Evolution of the Energy Economy: Ensuring Security and Stability," is co-sponsored by the United States Energy Association (USEA) and Johnson Controls, Inc. . Abraham's agency, the Department of Energy, is responsible for enhancing national security through domestic energy production, energy conservation, nuclear safety and science and technology research and development. Prior to becoming the nation's tenth secretary of energy in January 2001, he represented Michigan in the United States Senate.

Other Forum speakers offering a variety of perspectives on energy issues include U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christine Todd Whitman; Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee; Rep. Mark Udall, D-Colo., member of the House Resources Committee and lead co-chair for the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus; and Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., member of the House Resource Committee.

Also speaking will be Gov. John Hoeven of North Dakota, chairman of the National Governors Association Committee on Natural Resources; Elizabeth Lowery, vice president of environment and energy at General Motors Corp.; Jefferson Seabright, director, Green Strategies, Inc.; and T.J. Glauthier, president and chief executive officer of E21 - Electricity Innovation Institute.

The Energy Efficiency Forum is an annual nonpartisan event designed to raise awareness of energy efficiency issues.
