Mitsubishi Motors Reports Second-Best May Ever

CYPRESS, Calif., June 3 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) today reported May sales of 30,874 units, marking the second best May in company history and moving Mitsubishi's year-to-date sales up to 151,202 units, 15 percent ahead of last year.

"Heading into summer we're optimistic that sales will remain strong," said MMSA President and COO Pierre Gagnon. "We're well ahead of last year's record pace and the addition of Outlander this fall will provide additional growth in the hot entry-level SUV market."

Mitsubishi's May sales were supported by Eclipse Spyder's best sales month ever, delivering 2,335 units and marking a 12.6 percent gain over May 2001.

     Some figures of note for MMSA's May 2002 sales:

     -- May 2002 sales of 30,874 vehicles, down 2.0 percent compared to
        last year's May sales of 31,488 vehicles

     -- May 2002 year-to-date sales of 151,202 vehicles; 15 percent ahead
        of May 2001 year-to-date sales of 131,532 vehicles

     -- Eclipse Spyder had its best month ever in May with 2,335 units
        sold, up 12.6 percent over sales during May 2001
