Pontiac-GMC Brings In Ronny And The Daytonas To Highlight GTO At The Woodward Dream Cruise

DETROIT - The Pontiac-GMC Division of General Motors will be a major contributor of fun and entertainment to the eighth annual Woodward Dream Cruise, taking place Saturday, August 17. Ronny and the Daytonas, the '60s classic rock sensation, will perform their chart-topping hits such as, "(Little) GTO" and "Sandy" on-stage.

Live performances will be at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. The group will be signing autographs and will be available for pictures throughout the day.

Pontiac-GMC's display of cars and entertainment will be located at Memorial Park, on the corner of Woodward and 13 Mile Road, in Royal Oak. The Pontiac-GMC site will house vintage cars ranging from a 1936 Pontiac to a special '60s GTO display including the 1967 Pontiac GTO, which is featured in the action-packed film, "xXx," starring Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson, in theaters August 9.

This year also marks the 100th Anniversary of GMC and various vintage GMC trucks will be displayed, including a 1915 GMC Pickup Truck, 1941 Fire Truck and 1956 GMC Pickup Truck.

Along with vintage cars and trucks, the Memorial Park site will also offer exciting vehicles from the present, some which include: the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Trailer with the Grand Am NHRA pace car and Grand Am funny car; the #20 Home Depot car driven by Tony Stewart in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series; a never- seen-before modified Pontiac Aztek dragster; a Pontiac Sunfire and Pontiac Vibe "tuned up;" the GMC Yukon 4-Sight concept truck -- and much more.

Additionally, in cooperation with Oldies 104.3 WOMC radio, Pontiac-GMC will host on-stage entertainment for all ages throughout the day. Various activities will take place throughout the day, including a hula-hoop contest, bubble blowing contest, limbo and more. From 5:00-8:00 p.m., WOMC radio will broadcast live on-site.

Balloons and Pontiac-GMC coloring books are free for kids. Pontiac and GMC official merchandise will be available for sale, including T-shirts, hats and model cars.

The Woodward Dream Cruise, this mid-summer classic celebrates the cars, music and memories of cruisin' in the '50s and '60s in the place that put America on wheels. The world's largest one-day celebration of the car culture attracts more than 1.5 million visitors; 30,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles; involves the seven host cities of Berkley, Birmingham, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac, and Royal Oak; traverses a 16-mile route; and supports more than 30 local charities.
