LA Auto Club: Gas Prices Unmoved From August; Price Stability Continues in Southern California
LOS ANGELES--Sept. 17, 2002--The September monthly average price of gasoline in Southern California remains virtually the same compared with August, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's monthly Fuel Gauge Report. The Southern California average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline is $1.623, up from the August average of $1.622. The current price also mirrors the state average of $1.623, which is down nine-tenths of a cent from the August price.
San Francisco area motorists now pay an average of $1.78, down a cent from last month. The lowest average price in the state can be found in Visalia, where regular self-serve unleaded gasoline can be pumped for $1.42. The most expensive gasoline in the state is in Eureka and Yreka, where the price is $1.86.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline was also flat, rising three tenths of a cent to $1.408. Georgia has the lowest state average at $1.253 per gallon.
"Summer price stability seems to be carrying over into the fall," said Auto Club Spokesperson Carol Thorp. "While many refiners are reducing inventories, there is still enough supply to prevent the latest political and military news from having an impact on consumers at the pump."
OPEC is scheduled to meet on Thursday, Sept. 19, and decide whether to increase oil output this fall. A decision to boost output is widely expected.
