Audi Wins Automechanika 2002's Innovation Award Using Latest Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions Technology

    FRANKFURT, Germany--Sept. 18, 2002--

Audi AG receives innovation award with their new Pocket Diagnostic Tester being jointly developed in close co-operation with Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions .
The Audi Pocket Diagnostic Tester is a powerful, portable and cost effective device that perfectly complements the existing diagnostic testers in operation within the Audi service organisation.
"We do not intend to replace the existing testers with this new system. The Pocket Diagnostic Tester is designed to perform jobs where the current testers would be overpowered. These jobs would include initial vehicle check-in or reprogramming," said Dietmar Hildebrandt, Executive Director Service and Parts worldwide. "The Pocket Diagnostic Tester is targeted with a competitive pricing model to enable more technicians to gain access to diagnostic tool functionality. Greater access to these tools allows the workshops to optimise the normal service and repair process, therefore saving cost whilst increasing customer satisfaction."
The Audi Pocket Diagnostic Tester is based on standard commercially available components such as PDAs used as the user interface. These components are then wirelessly linked to Teradyne's powerful communication interface, the GNA600. The Software is authored with the next generation Teradyne Service Diagnostic Authoring System, GRADE X. This software is built around Java, XML and web based technologies.
"We were delighted to be able to implement and deliver such an innovative and complex project within such short time-frames," said Martin Eichhorn, Project Manager with Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions Munich applications centre. "This project has been closely developed in collaboration with Audi and its success clearly demonstrates our experience and competence as the leading provider of service diagnostic tools. All parts used in this project are a direct result of our core products, with both hardware and software based on current Teradyne R&D developments."
