FIRST ROUNDS OF NHRA LUCAS OIL SERIES QUALIFYING COMPLETE AT MEMPHIS
MOTORSPORTS PARK
        MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In the first rounds of qualifying in the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Memphis Motorsports Park, Top Alcohol
Dragster driver Brian Badgett and Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Ron Morrison
took the no. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.  
        Badgett, of Maryland Hts., Mo., outran the field with a pass of
5.341 seconds at 261.67 mph.  And Oklahoma City resident Morrison made a
6.213-second, 203.89 mph run to take the pole.
Top qualifiers in other classes were David Rampy of Piedmont, Ala., in Comp
Eliminator; Gilbert Johnson Sr., Lecompte, La., in Super Stock; and Richard
Taylor, Byhalia, Miss., in Stock.
        Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Memphis Motorsports Park. 
Gates open at 8 a.m. both days and racing begins at 9 a.m.  Tickets are $20
each day and a two-day pass is $30.  Children 12 and under are admitted
