AAA Texas: Gas Prices Continue Steady Decline

HOUSTON--May 2, 2003--Gasoline prices continued their steady decline throughout Texas for the sixth consecutive week, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded self-serve is $1.439 which is 2.7 cents lower than last week's level, 12 cents below the price last month and 8 cents higher than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas in Texas, Dallas had the highest price with an average of 1.469 per gallon, while motorists in Corpus Christi have the lowest price of $1.341.
"For the past couple of weeks, we've been seeing conditions that would indicate a bottoming out of prices, but so far, they keep falling," said Carol Thorp, spokesperson for AAA Texas said. "Prices may decline for another week, but all indications are that we are close to the bottom. Later this month, with the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaching, it's likely that prices will begin to move higher."
