Chrysler Offering Discounts to Boost Pacifica Sales

DETROIT May 29, 2003; Sholnn Freeman writing for Dow Jones reported that DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is offering discounts to bolster sales of the Pacifica SUV, dealers say.

Effective through June 2, returning lease customers are eligible for a $1,000 "loyalty" discount on the $35,000 vehicle, the dealers say. Also, the Pacifica will be added to a $500 trade-in dealer cash program announced on other vehicles last week. The new money should help dealers offer customers more attractive monthly payments.

Chrysler has big hopes for the Pacifica, introduced this spring. The vehicle -- a blend of SUV, minivan and sedan -- is part of the fast-growing segment of crossover SUVs. But shoppers have balked at paying top dollar for the new Chrysler.
