Nissan Named as One of Top Twenty Noteworthy Companies in Diversity; Nissan is the Only Automotive Import Company to Receive This Distinction

LOS ANGELES--April 21, 2004--Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) has earned a spot on DiversityInc's listing of The 20 Noteworthy Companies for Diversity. The companies on this list, which are not ranked, were selected by DiversityInc for demonstrating excellence in one or more particular areas of diversity measurement. Nissan was the only automotive import company to be recognized by DiversityInc on its "Noteworthy" list.

"Nissan was selected for the diversity of its new hires, its support of work-life balance and mandatory diversity training," said Luke Visconti, partner/co-founder, DiversityInc. "We were also impressed with Nissan's CEO (Carlos Ghosn). Nissan is on the right track."

Nissan's Corporate Diversity Initiative was launched in 1998 with the goal of improving business results by establishing a more diverse dealer network, creating additional ethnic minority supplier and vendor opportunities and promoting full inclusion in every aspect of Nissan's business operations. In support of these goals, Nissan's Corporate Diversity Initiative includes specific objectives to help increase its number of minority-owned suppliers and dealers.

"At Nissan, we embrace diversity as a key business strategy," said Jim Morton, senior vice president, finance and administration at NNA. "As part of our commitment to inclusion, we have created opportunities to improve the diversity for our workforce, dealers and suppliers in order to maintain a competitive advantage as a multicultural and global company. We are pleased to be recognized by DiversityInc for our efforts."

DiversityInc the magazine and DiversityInc.com provide managerial-level information on the business benefits of diversity. DiversityInc's "Noteworthy" list was culled from DiversityInc's fourth annual survey of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity. A total of 178 companies participated in the survey, reflecting an increase of more than 50 percent from last year. This year's ranking is twice as detailed as last year's and is the most in-depth analysis of corporate diversity management, leadership and marketing that has ever been undertaken.
