Michigan Law Enforcement Officials Remind Motorists to Buckle Up or Pay Up Over Memorial Day Holiday

Law enforcement officials throughout the state remind motorists to Buckle Up or Pay Up as they travel over the Memorial Day holiday. Safety Belt Enforcement Zones are blanketing the state through June 6th in an effort to raise safety belt use to 90 percent in Michigan. More than 500 law enforcement agencies will be conducting safety belt enforcement zones reaching over 90 percent of the state's population.

During the first four days of the statewide Click It or Ticket safety belt enforcement mobilization, 6,006 safety belt citations have been issued, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. These figures are based on reports from 166 safety belt enforcement zones.

The safety belt enforcement zone reports also included: 103 child restraint citations issued, three drunk drivers arrested, 143 misdemeanor arrests and 15 felony arrests.
