Kia to Recall 13,254 Morning Subcompacts

Seoul December 27, 2004; The Korea Times reported that Kia Motors, the second-largest carmaker in South Korea, will recall 13,254 units of the Morning subcompact due to problems in the engine control system, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Friday.

Owners of Morning models produced between Dec. 23, 2003 and Nov. 5, 2004 can have the problems repaired free of charge at Kia Motors service centers and repair shops nationwide from Dec. 27, 2004 to June 26, 2005.

The problems in the engine control unit programs cause an engine malfunction and may cause it to stop while operating, the ministry said.
