Chrysler Group Statement Confirming Minivan Production in Taiwan

DETROIT, Jan. 10, 2005 -- Today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chrysler Group President and CEO Dieter Zetsche confirmed that the Chrysler Group signed a contract with Taiwan-based China Motor Corporation (CMC) to contract manufacture Chrysler Town & Country minivans next year in Taiwan for that market at CMC's facility in Yang Mei, Taiwan.

The new Chrysler minivans featuring the industry-first Stow 'n Go(R) seating, have set a new standard in the minivan segment for performance, utility and value.

"Chrysler minivans continue to set new benchmarks in the segment that we created and that we lead worldwide," said Zetsche. "The strength of our minivans helped the Chrysler brand achieve growth outside North America. Establishing a manufacturing presence in Taiwan is part of our growth strategy for Asia, and we believe there is tremendous potential there for the brands of the Chrysler Group moving forward."

"This is another significant step toward realizing DaimlerChrysler's strategy for this region," said Dr. Rudiger Grube, Member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG responsible for Corporate Development and China Operations. "Producing Chrysler minivans in Taiwan will complement our passenger car and commercial vehicle production in the region, and further demonstrates our long-term commitment there."

"DaimlerChrysler's licensing of CMC to produce Chrysler minivans in Taiwan symbolizes the expansion of the cooperation between CMC and DaimlerChrysler, and it is also proof of the capability of the automotive and parts industry in Taiwan," said Kenneth Kai Tai Yen, Vice Chairman of CMC.

China Motor Corporation was established in 1969 and is based in Taiwan. It has multiple subsidiaries and affiliates involved in automotive distribution, parts manufacturing, and related services. It is a publicly traded subsidiary of the Yulon Group.
