AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Signs of Relief at the Pumps
HOUSTON--Sept. 16, 2005--Motorists are finally getting some relief at the gas pumps as prices continue to retreat below $3 a gallon, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch. The statewide average price for regular self-serve dropped to $2.815 a gallon, down 12.4 cents after a 31-cent increase last week. The current average remains more than a dollar higher than last year's average.
"Gasoline prices are falling across Texas and the rest of the country as more fuel becomes available," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Several refineries and oil pipelines that were shut down following Hurricane Katrina are slowly getting back online. Also, a federal government report this week showed that drivers cut back on their gasoline use during the price hikes while gas supplies increased."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.915 a gallon, a weekly drop decrease of 11.5 cents.
AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
