Kia Recalls 70,000 LD Spectras

Washington DC September 30, 2005; The AIADA newsletter reported that Kia said yesterday it will recall over 70,000 of their 2004 and 2005 Spectra sedans because the computer that operates the air bag system may confuse a child seat for an adult in the front passenger seat, reports AP.

Kia spokesman Ian Beavis said the recall is identical to the recall two weeks ago of the Hyundai Elantra, and Kia is taking a “precautionary measure” because they share the same platform with the Elantra. No crashes or injuries were connected to the issue. The recall is expected to start near the end of October.
