AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gasoline Prices Continue Upward
HOUSTON--Dec. 2, 20053, 2005--The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Texas continued its upward march for the third straight week, according to the AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.The statewide average price for a gallon of regular self serve is $2.161 a gallon - a weekly increase of nearly two cents. Dallas takes the lead for the second straight week as the city with the highest average on the list - up two cents to $2.185 a gallon. Corpus Christi has the lowest average at $2.073 a gallon - up less than a penny.
"Higher gas prices will not deter Texans from traveling this holiday. Nearly 5.1 million Texans are expected to travel for the Christmas - New Year's holiday, up 1.4 percent from last year," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "When you factor in hotel and rental car rates, gasoline remains a relatively small part of most family travel budgets."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.208 a gallon - about two cents higher than last week's average.
