'CHiPS' Alum Erik Estrada to Help Bring Child Safety Center Stage at 2006 LA Auto Show;

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--Jan. 5, 2006--21st Century Insurance is bringing a little bit of Hollywood to the LA Auto Show this year. Child safety seat campaign spokesperson and former "CHiPs" television star Erik Estrada will share safety tips with families on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, and next weekend at the show. 21st will also show off some iconic American dream machines often seen in movie and television productions: a 1935 Auburn, a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air and the California Highway Patrol's own Corvette.

Safety will continue in the spotlight, as 21st offers advice on buying and installing child safety seats, a chance to win one of 21 child safety seats in a raffle and the only free and comprehensive printed brochure containing the Institute for Highway Safety's crash test information for 2006 auto models.

"Erik Estrada, CHP officers and these classic cars - what a great combination of safety and excitement. We just can't wait for the show to start," said Joyce Prager, Assistant Vice President, Community Relations for 21st Century.

21st Auto Show Booth to Feature Safety Demonstrations & Guides

Throughout the Auto Show, visitors can view child safety seat demonstrations by CHP officers and learn common mistakes made by parents when installing and using child safety seats at the 21st Century Insurance booth in Kentia Hall. Parents interested in tips on selecting the right child safety seat can also pick up a copy of 21st's Child Safety Seats: A Parent's Guide. Guides and safety demonstrations will be available at all times during the Auto Show.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children two years of age. NHTSA recently updated their information on improper child safety seat installation. New data show that 80 percent of child safety seats are improperly installed and are a potential source of injury for children, up from 73 percent in 2004.

To help reduce preventable injuries and deaths, 21st and the CHP will kick off the fifth year of their statewide child safety seat inspection campaign at the L.A. Auto Show this weekend.

"Having our children properly secured in an appropriate child safety seat is the best insurance against being killed or seriously injured in many vehicle crashes," said California Highway Patrol Commissioner Mike Brown.

For the past four years, 21st Century Insurance, the CHP and campaign spokesperson Erik Estrada have conducted safety fairs in communities throughout California. At the events, CHP officers inspect and, if necessary, replace and install new child safety seats donated by 21st. Since the program began five years ago, the CHP has conducted more than 2,900 inspections, removed and destroyed more than 1,400 hazardous seats and 21st has donated more than 1,900 new seats to California families.

"At 21st Century Insurance, the safety of all motorists and passengers on the road is a huge priority," Prager said. "As a California-based company, we are committed to helping our fellow Californians obtain proper child safety seats and additional life-saving advice on how to protect their young passengers and themselves while driving."

In addition to 21st's joint safety efforts with the CHP, the insurer will offer its 2006 Crash Test Ratings Guide at the Auto Show. The guide compiles crash test data from the Insurance Information Institute for 2006 autos, vans and SUVs and recommends the "Best Pick" for safety conscious consumers in each vehicle category based on crash test results.

All of 21st's consumer guides are available in English and Spanish and can be obtained free of charge by calling 1-800-211-SAVE or visiting 21st.com.

For more information regarding the proper installation of child safety seats, each of the CHP's 102 area offices has designated one day a week when the public can schedule an appointment to have child safety seats inspected and get instruction and assistance with proper seat installation. A list of office locations and telephone numbers is available in the telephone directory or on the CHP Web site at www.chp.ca.gov.
