Clean Diesel Vehicles for California Addressed at Bosch Clean Diesel Symposium

Sacramento - Feb. 1, 2006: Transportation industry executives and representatives, environmentalists, policymakers and regulators will be on hand tomorrow at the Bosch Clean Diesel Symposium to discuss future opportunities for clean diesel passenger vehicles in California.

Clean diesel vehicles provide a 30 percent increase in fuel economy and up to a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to gasoline. The introduction of ultra-low sulfur fuel in 2006 has provided a key enabler for further development of engine and engine control systems making clean diesel a viable and attractive means to meet California's aggressive vehicle standards in the years to come.

Representatives from Bosch, DaimlerChrysler, Volkswagen, Corning, Honeywell and other industry and environmental stakeholders will be joined by:

  * James D. Boyd, commissioner, California Energy
     Commission (keynote)
  * Dr. Robert Sawyer, chair, California Air Resources
     Board (CARB)
  * Roland Hwang, senior policy analyst, Natural Resources
     Defense Council
  * John Boesel, president and CEO, WestStart-CALSTART
  * Tom Cackette, chief deputy executive officer, California
     Air Resources Board
