S&H Motorsports Refreshes With Faygo For Michigan
HOLLY, Mi (June 12, 2006) - - S&H Motorsports officials proudly announced
today that the _National Beverage Corporation_ (http://www.faygo.com/)
sporting the Faygo colors will leap aboard their Ford Taurus as a associate
marketing partner for this week’s Hantz Group 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
The history of _Faygo_ (http://www.faygo.com/) goes back to 1907, when the
Feigenson brothers rented a building on Winder street in the Eastern Market
area of Detroit to manufacture and bottle soft drinks. Their original
flavors, Strawberry, Fruit Punch and Grape were based on cake frosting recipes the
brothers perfected as bakers in their native Russia. A few years later
Lithiated Lemon, Rock & Rye and Sassafras were introduced to the growing stable of
flavors. In 1921 the Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works name was shortened to
Faygo.
Business began to boom near the beginning of World War I so the brother
needed to expand. They moved the whole operation in 1935, to the now famous
factory on Gratiot Street.
Faygo is also known for their many famous commercials. The "Faygo Kid" an ad
which ran from the early 1960's to the mid 1970's. But the most memorable
commercial was the "Remember When You Were a Kid" ad. The song alone sold over
70,000 copies! Running from 1971 through 1977, the song as made a loving
imprint in the minds of many.
Throughout the twentieth century, Faygo steadily increased its production
line. Faygo is credited with the spreading of the word "pop" instead of "soda"
to mean soft drink in the Midwest.
In 1987 Faygo Beverages was sold to the National Beverage Corporation, which
also own Shasta Beverages, Inc. Many Faygo brand flavors are shared with
Shasta brands. Faygo still manufactures more than 40 flavors of soda pop from
their state of the art bottling plant near downtown Detroit. In 1998, Faygo
Beverages, Inc. began distributing the Ohana brand of non-carbonated soft
drinks.
Faygo currently holds a 12-percent market share in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana
and western Pennsylvania.
“S&H Motorsports is very pumped about carrying the logo of the Faygo for
Friday’s race,?? said the driver Howard Bixman. “They are a company that
everyone is familiar with and have a huge impact in the state of Michigan, we’re
hoping to brighten their exposure even further in the Hantz Group 200.??
With both companies based in Michigan, there’s an extra incentive to
perform well. “It’s a great privilege to be associated with a company that was
born and still operates within an hour of our race team,?? explained Bixman. “
When we run well, it makes all of our marketing partners look good and that’s
our goal, bottom line. Even though we are competing in a limited schedule
this season, our goals remain high. We plan to give 100 percent every weekend
and give our partners the exposure and recognition they are looking for.??
S&H Motorsports will run a limited ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule this year
with a 2005 Ford Taurus acquired from Robert Yates Racing with Roush Racing
providing the horsepower under the hood continuing with the Hantz Group 200, the
second race for S&H Motorsports this season.
In May, S&H Motorsports finished a respectable 23rd in the Harley-Davidson
of Cincinnati 150 at Kentucky Speedway. “It was a solid run for the team and
we have higher expectations for Michigan,?? mentioned Bixman.
Last month the S&H Motorsports team spent a day testing at the two-mile
facility in preparation for the race. The team turned respectable lap times
leaving them with plenty of confidence heading into race weekend. “The test went
well,?? continued Bixman. “This is the same car that we raced at Kentucky,
but we changed several things and didn’t test with our race motor. When we
unload at the track we plan to rise to the top of the pylon as the car will be
better and the motor will be stout.??
