BorgWarner Supplies Components for All 7 Finalists in Annual Competition

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 27 -- Leading global powertrain supplier BorgWarner powers the European Car of the Year 2008 -- the Fiat 500 -- as well as all seven finalists in the closely fought competition, including the second place Mazda 2 and third place Ford Mondeo.

"We are proud that our leading engine and drivetrain technology contributes to the performance and fuel economy of these notable new vehicles," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "Congratulations to Fiat on this prestigious industry recognition."

BorgWarner supplies the turbocharger for diesel models of the Fiat 500 and Mazda 2. For various models of the Ford Mondeo, BorgWarner produces a number of engine and drivetrain components, including a turbocharger with wastegate designed to withstand extreme temperatures up to 1050 degrees C, diesel exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves and engine timing products. BorgWarner also supplies the dual clutch and damper module for the new "Durashift-6- tronic," the first dual clutch transmission used at Ford and the only automatic transmission available on the new Ford Mondeo.

Established in 1964 and sponsored by seven leading auto industry publications, the Car of the Year is an international award judged by a panel of 58 senior journalists from 22 countries across Europe. The award recognizes the single, most outstanding new car to enter the European market during the year.
