AAA Chicago: September Monthly Fuel Averages Remain Below $4

AURORA, Ill.--Fuel prices have fallen during the last month but with hurricane season here, there is likely to be price changes during the fall in Illinois and northern Indiana. AAA Chicagos most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 11 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $3.81 per gallon for the month of September, which is 72 cents higher per gallon than last year.

Crude oil prices have decreased, which is being reflected in prices at the pump, says Nicole Niemi, AAA Chicagos spokesperson. However, refinery outages due to hurricanes in the Gulf states could result fluctuate in the coming weeks.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $3.83, which is down 8 cents from August and up 75 cents from September 2007.

  • In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.99, which is down 11 cents compared to last month and 73 cents higher than last years price-per-gallon.
  • In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.90 per gallon, which is an 8-cent decrease from August and 72 cents higher than last year.
  • In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.89 per gallon, which is 9 cents lower compared to last month and 73 cents higher than August 2007s price.
  • In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.85 per gallon, which is 11 cents lower than last month and up by 71 cents compared to this time last year.
  • In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.87 per gallon, which is 9 cents lower than Augusts average and 73 cents higher than September 2007s price.
  • In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.88 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower compared to last month and 69 cents higher compared to last year.
  • In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.64 per gallon, a decrease of 18 cents from August and an increase of 56 cents from last year.
  • In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.67 per gallon, which is 11 cents lower than last month and 64 cents higher than last year.
  • In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.63 per gallon, which is a 12-cent decrease compared to last month and a 60 cent increase from September 2007.
  • In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.62 per gallon, which is 21 cents lower than last month and 61 cents higher than last year.
  • In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.79 per gallon, a decrease of 7 cents from August and an increase of 70 cents from September 2007.
  • In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.68 per gallon, which is a decrease of 7 cents from last month and 65 cents higher than September 2007s price.
  • In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.83 per gallon, an 8-cent decrease from Augusts average and a 73 cent increase from a year ago.
  • In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.82 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month and 79 cents higher than last year.
  • In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.72 per gallon, which is 7 cents lower compared to last month and 73 cents higher compared to last year.
