WASHINGTON, DC December 8, 2008: A high-tech company that converts traditional gas-powered cars into all-electric vehicles is in D.C. this week to demonstrate a high performance 100% electric vehicle and to file for a Department of Energy (DOE) loan, from funds designed to help the Big Three create environmentally friendly cars. Amidst the crisis with the U.S. auto industry, Advanced Mechanical Products, Inc. (AMP), an Electric Powertrain Component Supplier, has created a zero emission All-Electric Powertrain, converting the sporty GM Saturn Sky to a one-of-a-kind all-electric vehicle. The car runs 150 miles on one charge.

Jack Kuntz, President and CEO of AMP, submitted the company’s 136 loan application to the DOE today. “We intend to bring customers totally electric, American-made, green cars at an affordable price,” Kuntz said. “This will help break our country’s need for foreign sources of oil, contributing to our national security and moving us closer to energy independence. It is truly a major development in automotive history.”

The Section 136 Program was part of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), which passed Congress in December 2007. The $25 billion in funding for the program was provided for by Congress in the Fiscal Year 2009 Continuing Resolution, for the building of Advanced Technology Vehicles, insuring our nation’s future.

The new AMP car conversion technology can help the U.S. auto industry, create jobs in the United States, and its ZERO emissions can help resolve environmental issues.

The technology is not in the pipeline—it’s completed. The GM Saturn Sky is road ready in D.C. for demonstrations. Deliveries are scheduled for 2009.

AMP builds all-electric Powertrains for use in new or existing American-made vehicles, using new technology and lithium phosphate batteries to convert American-made cars, like the GM Saturn Sky, into 100% electric-powered vehicles. Orders for the all-electric car that have been placed online are now being fulfilled.

With DOE financing, more cars will be able to be produced, on the road sooner and for less cost to consumers. However, with politics on Capitol Hill—financing to promote American innovation remains at stake.

AMP is a high-tech company located in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Its principal investors and officers are entrepreneurs, engineers and inventors, with a strong track record of success in starting high-technology companies.
