"The number of Visteon employees who have dedicated their time and passion to sharing our interiors expertise at this event is impressive and reflects the breadth of Visteon's automotive intellect," said Tim Yerdon, director, Visteon global innovation, design and advanced electronics.

Visteon's contribution to the 2009 SAE World Congress includes:

Integrated Vehicle-Based Safety Systems Field Operational Test (IVBSS FOT)

  Room W2-64 -- 9:30 a.m., April 20

This session provides an overview of the ongoing Integrated Vehicle-Based Safety Systems Field Operational Test (IVBSS FOT) in which Visteon is a participant. IVBSS provides drivers with situational awareness of the vehicle's surroundings, and warns drivers when they are about to inadvertently leave the roadway, are in danger of colliding with another vehicle while attempting a lane change, or are at risk of colliding with the vehicle ahead.

The objective of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI)-spearheaded project is to develop and field-test a new, integrated crash warning system. Visteon integrated these systems into 16 passenger cars, and also designed and developed the algorithms for the forward collision, blind spot detection, lane change/merge and curve speed warning systems.

Visteon's Tim Tiernan, senior manager of advanced technology, is a panelist for this discussion.

Intelligent Vehicle Initiative (IVI) Technology Advanced Controls and Navigation Systems

Room W2-61 -- 9:30 a.m., April 23

A Visteon team consisting of experts from North America and Japan - Shunji Miyahara, Kenneth A. Freeman, Anatoli Koulinitch and Kevin Tiedje - will discuss their paper: Blind Spot Monitoring by a Single Camera.

  Thermal Management Systems

  Room D2-11/12 -- Noon, April 20

Visteon climate expert John Meyer will discuss his paper: Production Solutions for Utilization of both R1234yf and R134 in a Single Global Platform. This technical session discusses how management of heat flow, coolant flow, oil flow, and airflow is extremely important as it directly affects the system performance under a full range of vehicle operating conditions. Visteon is recognized as a leader in developing reliable alternative refrigerant systems - such as R1234yf and R134 - to meet upcoming European and worldwide legislation to limit man-made greenhouse gas emissions. Meyer will review these specific systems during his presentation.

  Automotive Lighting Technology

  Room M3-32 -- 2 p.m., April 20

Improving drivers' visibility, which leads to road safety, has been an essential objective of Visteon's automotive lighting team. Visteon lighting expert Rainer Neumann will discuss his paper: Future Lighting Technology: Improved Safety Features vs. Consumer Expectations.

  OEM Global Supply Chain

  Room O2-35/36 -- 4:30 p.m., April 21

This session addresses issues related to the interdependence among OEMs, their tier suppliers and the supply chain servicing these organizations. Presentations focus on the current state of the global economy on the automotive industry supply chain and achieving world-class product throughout the entire supply chain. Visteon's Joseph LaRussa and Anthony Cheslick will present: Lean Principles in Supply Chain Management for the Automotive Aftermarket.

Human Factors in Driving and Automotive Telematics

  Room D2-15 -- 8:30 a.m., April 22

This session includes technical papers dealing with a driver's interaction, perception, and behavior toward advanced telematics devices and intelligent safety systems, with an overall objective of developing safer, more intuitive and comfortable vehicle systems. A Visteon team studied touch screen feedback on a global level; the team will present: International Product User Research: Concurrent Studies Comparing Touch Screen Feedback in Europe and North America. Visteon team members include Colleen Serafin; Michael Tschirhart, Ph.D.; Rainer Heers, Ph.D.; and Stephan Preussler.

Filtration and Separation for Vehicle Emissions Compliance

  Room D2-13/14 -- 10 a.m., April 23

Mandated reductions in hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxide, and particulate emissions have dramatically influenced vehicle fuel injection equipment, fuels and fuel/lubricant additives. These changes, in turn, have cascaded into substantial shifts in filtration requirements. Representing Visteon, Scott Flora, Scott Schaffer and Anthony Arruda, will discuss their paper: Humidity Affects on a Carbon Hydrocarbon Adsorber.

From Visteon's interiors product group, Gregory Spingler submitted the paper: Numerical Modeling of Laser Scoring Line Behavior for Seamless Passenger Airbag Door Opening. Other Visteon experts involved themselves with the Congress by acting as session organizers. Visteon session organizers include Ravi Thyagarajan and Joseph LaRussa.

The SAE World Congress is a forum that brings together representatives from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, government and academia from around the world for an exchange of ideas on the state of advanced automotive technology and business.
