New Jersey Department of Transportation Okays Red Light Cameras in Linden, New Jersey; Selects American Traffic Solutions to Run Program

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--Linden, New Jersey, which is 13 miles southwest of Manhattan and bordering Staten Island in the New York Metropolitan area, has selected American Traffic Solutions, Inc. (ATS) to run the City’s red-light camera program. The New Jersey Department of Transportation has granted permission for the City of Linden to install cameras at three locations as part of the state’s red-light camera pilot program.

“Red-light camera programs are proven to modify driver behavior to make roadways safer,” said Linden Police Chief Michael F. Boyle. “As the camera vendor for New York City with nearby regional offices, we are confident that ATS will be an excellent partner for the City of Linden in helping us to reduce the number of red-light running violations and crashes.”

The locations approved for camera installation are:

• RT US 1&9 and South Stiles Street
• RT US 1&9 and South Park Avenue
• RT 27 and North Stiles Street

ATS serves more than 150 communities across the country with photo-enforcement programs including in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC. ATS also has regional offices in each of those cities, with ample resources available to assist Linden’s program as needed.

New York City’s red-light camera program has seen a 73 percent reduction in violations between 1994 and 2005. According to a 2007 study completed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, researchers tallied signal violations at intersections in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before and after red-light camera enforcement had been in effect for about one year and found the cameras reduced violations by 96 percent.
