Memorial Day Travel: What You Need to Get Your Vehicle Road Ready

PHILADELPHIA--With more drivers expected to be on the road this Memorial Day holiday weekend, The Pep Boys — Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation’s leading automotive aftermarket service and retail chain, offers drivers tips on how to prepare your vehicle for Memorial Day travel and stay on top of seasonal maintenance.

This Memorial Day weekend, the American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that 32.4 million motorists will be taking a trip of 50 miles or more away from home. This is an increase of 1.5 percent from last year.

“Pep Boys recommends that drivers take preventative measures to ensure their vehicle’s primary components, including lights, tires, fluids and brakes, are able to perform optimally before traveling,” says Bill Shull, senior vice president of stores at Pep Boys. “Our ASE certified, automotive experts can address and fix any of your vehicle’s potential problems as well as offer great advice and product deals for any do-it-yourselfer, so you can do the job right and get on the road this holiday.”

Some key priorities to inspect before hitting the road:

Oil and Preventive Maintenance

Every vehicle requires regular scheduled maintenance regardless of their condition, oil changes being the most frequent of those services. Routine maintenance is a year-round investment which helps your vehicle last longer, and perform better. Pep Boys offers a spectrum of preventive maintenance packages and aligns them with your manufacturer’s requirements to keep your vehicle running at its peak. Also, stop by a Pep Boys store to take advantage of a DIY oil change package complete with motor oil and a filter. Or we can do the job for you. Pep Boys will also check your lights for free.

Battery

Check your battery’s charge, particularly if it is over three years old. Visually inspect the battery to make sure the connections between the cables and terminals are tight and there is no sign of corrosion. Stop by a Pep Boys and have your battery checked for free.

Tires and Brakes

Pep Boys can perform a free tire air pressure check to detect under – or over – inflation, which can lead to performance and operation problems, as well as safety concerns. During a tire rotation is the perfect time to also inspect a vehicles braking system in order to avoid future problems.

Air Conditioning System

It is important to have a well-functioning air conditioning system as we head into the hotter months of the year. A properly functioning air conditioning system is critical in high humidity, such as rainy weather, or in high pollution. Have your system checked periodically to make sure that your system is performing efficiently when you need it.

Pep Boys Memorial Day Tire Event

The wintertime is always hard on a vehicle’s tires, with icy roads and potholes reeking havoc on rubber and ice scrapping tire walls. As the spring ushers in new life and we look towards the warmer weather, now is the perfect time to replace your tires if needed. From Sunday, May 17 to Sunday, June 7, Pep Boys is having a Memorial Day Tire Event with great tire deals to get any driver ready for this season.
