Nebraska Motor Carriers Are Now Able to Make IRP Pay Supplements Online

LINCOLN, Neb.--The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles has worked with Nebraska.gov to create a system for motor carriers to securely submit their International Registration Plan (IRP) payments online.

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles Motor Carrier Services Division is responsible for processing registration applications and sending invoices to more than 4,000 Nebraska-based IRP carriers. The fees are calculated according to the miles traveled, the type of operation, and the registered combined gross weight of each vehicle. IRP is a method of registering fleets of vehicles that operate in interstate commerce in two or more member jurisdictions.

The DMV previously had no system in place where the motor carrier could go to the DMV Web site and pay the fees owed. The motor carriers were required to make a payment in cash or check either via mail or in person to the DMV. Because of this, Nebraska.gov and the Department of Motor Vehicles created a secure online payment system that will now allow motor carriers to submit their payments and print their receipt.

“We are pleased to add the IRP payment system to our ever-growing online services,” said Beverly Neth, Director of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. “The new online payment system is designed to assist IRP registrants in submitting their payments.”

“Motor carriers will now be able to submit their IRP payments with the convenience of the Internet,” said Cathy Beedle, Administrator for Motor Carrier Services.

“We continue to review our programs and processes in an effort to make government more efficient and responsive to the needs of the citizens,” said Neth. “Web-enabling as many services as possible is one way we can further those efforts.”
