Vehicle in each of Volkswagen's 2009 model lineup qualifies for program--Consumers can receive up to $4500 government voucher off purchase of new Volkswagen

HERNDON, Va., June 19 -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced its support of the government funded 'Cash for Clunkers' program that will provide either $3,500 or $4,500 off the purchase price of new, more fuel efficient vehicle for consumers who trade in an older, less efficient vehicle. A vehicle in each of Volkswagen's 2009 model lineup meets the qualifications for participation in the government sponsored program. In order to qualify, eligible new vehicles must achieve at least 22 miles-per-gallon (mpg) for automobiles, and at least 18 mpg for small light-duty trucks and SUV's, and trade-in vehicles must achieve 18 mpg or less.

"Volkswagen of America supports this historic decision of the United States Government to enact the Cash for Clunkers program." said Stefan Jacoby, President/CEO, Volkswagen of America. "The fact that Volkswagen has long been known for producing fun-to-drive, fuel efficient vehicles, combined with our eight Top Safety Pick rated vehicles by the IIHS, should put Volkswagen on any new car buyers shopping list." added Jacoby.

Fleet modernization programs have already shown positive results around the world. This is especially true in Germany where Volkswagen was able to attract many new customers to the brand with its extremely fuel efficient model range.

The U.S. Government has allocated $1 billion for the 'Cash for Clunkers' program and it is estimated that it will result in the increase sales of 250,000 vehicles--providing a much needed boost to the automotive industry. The program will also benefit the environment by removing less fuel efficient vehicles from the road.

Volkswagen currently has ten models that are SmartWay (R) certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). SmartWay is the EPA's new and improved Green Vehicle Guide that makes it easy for new car shoppers to identify the cleanest, most fuel-efficient vehicles available that are EPA certified. The 2009 Rabbit, GTI, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, New Beetle, New Beetle convertible, Passat, Passat Wagon, Eos, and CC are all SmartWay certified by the EPA showcasing Volkswagen's ability to offer not only fuel efficient vehicles--but vehicles that are better for the environment as well.

Every 2009 model year Volkswagen is included in the no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program. Under this program scheduled maintenance, as described in each vehicles maintenance booklet, is covered for the length of the New Vehicle Warranty--three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
