From D. Allen
TACH Reader:
July 29, 2009;

I just got off the phone with a dealer with whom I had signed an agreement that included the cash for clunker. (this is Wed. July 29th)

My vehicle was not to be delivered until Aug 5th (next week).

I in turn have made the necessary calls to acquire the necessary paperwork that goes with my end of the deal to purchase the vehicle (supposedly on Aug. 5th)

Salesman and I spoke of vehicle, spoke of what I needed to bring in.  He inquired when I could come in, I suggested Friday.

The topic went immediately to how he had just sat in a sales meeting and that the cash for clunker funds were running out.  And that I might be taking a chance in waiting so long.

So long? ( it is two days? ) In fact it is 5 days earlier then when he said the car would be available.

Much conversation about this.  But I let him know I was not pleased with the pressure tactics that I was getting.  He in turn, kept to his, "I'm only trying to help you" comments, along with continually implying that I could very well loose the clunker funds.  Also stating its not him or his dealership, its the government that would be out of the money.

So I guess we'll see Friday if I have a new car to pick up or not, which depends on how they wish to treat me when I go.

Immediately I went to call CARS.gov  but understandably they are swamped.

Found your short article and gauge showing how much is actually still in the funds set aside for this program.

First thanks.  It is reassuring to see someone is getting the info out to the consumer.

But wow, hope you don't let that informational page slip down into the history.

I'm still reeling from the salesman telling me that I HAD to come in NOW to assure I could get that cash for my clunker.

Please continue letting people know about this.  I hate to see others getting pressured.

Publisher's Note: We agree with you…as we have always said car dealers are the modern day horse traders...they say what they think they need to say to ensure the "deal".

Not more than 10 minutes before I received your e mail, we had been discussing just how much bull the dealers were throwing...the net of it all is that cash for clunkers must really be working with all of the dealer bull in play.

Coincidently I am also in the midst of buying a new car and using my 1992 Volvo (with only 210,00 miles) as the turn-in (boo-hoo, more on my feelings about that later) and the salesman who I have known for over 30 years told me if I didn’t hurry the deal I might loose my clunker cash.

I promise we will stay on top of “cash for clunkers” thanks for TACH’n
