NEW YORK, July 29 -- A new website, www.NYCarsProgram.com, was launched to help consumers make sense of the Cash for Clunkers program. The Long Island Honda Dealers Association (www.NYLIhonda.com) built a comprehensive consumer information site to educate the public about the program.

"The most popular vehicle in New York is Honda and nearly all of Honda vehicles qualify for the Cash for Clunkers program, so it made sense to launch a website to educate the public, said Rob Sabbagh Jr.

"You don't really need a complicated chart to find a qualifying vehicle at a Honda dealer," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. With one of the most fuel-efficient vehicle lineups in the industry, nearly every new Honda model will help customers qualify for a federal "Cash for Clunkers" credit. "We hope that this program will help consumers make the move into vehicles that are easier on both their wallets and the environment," said Mendel.

www.NYCarsProgram.com helps consumers learn how they can turn a $500 clunker into a $4,500 trade-in by exchanging an older, less fuel efficient vehicle for a government funded credit worth up to $4,500 toward the purchase or lease of a new car with improved gas mileage. One of the most popular features on the site is the Clunker Calculator, which helps consumers quickly determine if they qualify and determine the amount of credit they could receive based on the new vehicle they select. The site also includes all of the Honda vehicles that could qualify for the $3,500 and $4,500 and connects consumers directly with a participating Honda dealer.

Depending on the trade-in vehicle, customers will be able to choose one or more of Honda's diverse model line including the Ridgeline pickup, its most-rugged vehicle; the Accord, Honda's best-selling U.S. model; and the all-new Insight, the most-affordable hybrid in the United States.

The only vehicles in the Honda lineup that will not qualify for a credit are the limited-production S2000 roadster, the Accord V6 Coupe with manual transmission and the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle (the latter is excluded by the program's five year lease requirement).

The first known consumer in New York to get "Cash for their Clunker" traded in a Nissan for a brand new Honda Odyssey (22mpg). Christopher Chosam, a Woodhaven, New York resident, exchanged his rusted 1998 Nissan Pathfinder SUV (value of $400 with 15mpg) for a brand new Honda Odyssey minivan (22mpg) with the help of a $4500 credit.

"I've been driving it for a week, and I still have a half a tank of gas," Chosam said. "The old car, I would have filled it up already." In addition to the government's incentive program, Honda has very attractive offers that enable all consumers to drive away in a brand new Accord LX Sedan for only $199 per month on a 36 month lease.

"This bill will reduce carbon emissions and pollution by having older, dirtier vehicles replaced by newer, cleaner and more efficient vehicles," said Rob Sabbagh Jr., representing the New York Long Island Honda Dealers. "It is great to promote a program that helps consumers, the economy and the environment at the same time."
