Spring Comes Early at Shannons

CHELTENHAM, UNITED KINGDOM – August 28, 2009: Spring is arriving early this year for classic vehicle enthusiasts, with 35 vehicles guaranteed to raise the spirit going under the hammer at Shannons Spring Classic Auction in Melbourne on Monday (August 31).

Eleven of the auction vehicles are convertible or roadster models, while sports coupes and sports sedans are also well represented.

Standout soft-top models include a pristine pair of 1970s Porsche 911 Targa models, three Mercedes-Benz sports convertibles, a 1962 Ford Thunderbird Roadster, stunning 2005 Mustang GT Convertible and a V8-engined 2007 model Elfin Clubman MS8.

The thoroughbred sports coupes include a 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV2000, a 1984 Porsche 944, a 1973 Citroen SM Coupe and two Mercedes-Benz coupes – a beautiful dark-blue 1965 300SE and a one-owner white Mercedes-Benz 250C.

And amongst the sports sedans are a brace of 1960s Ford Mustangs, a ‘K-Code’ 1971 Ford Fairlane 500 sedan and a 1985 Holden VK Commodore Group A SS Sedan.

For bargain hunters, the auction offers 13 unreserved vehicle lots, including three interesting Citroens (a 1924 Citroen 5CV Boat Tail Roadster, a 1956 Light 15 Sedan and a 1973 Citroen DS23 Safari Wagon), two classic Holdens (a 1954 Holden FJ Special Sedan and a 1962 Holden EK Utility), three Mercedes-Benz (the 250C Coupe, a 1976 450SEL Saloon and a 1985 280SE Sedan) and two red, 1963 model Vespa scooters – one with a matching red sidecar.

Amongst the 30 memorabilia items are 10 collectible three, four and five-digit VicRoads Heritage plates ranging from ‘285’ to ’86.911’, three classic fuel pumps and numerous items of garagenalia.

All lots in the Shannons auction are open for viewing over this weekend from 9.00am to 5.00pm Saturday and Sunday at Shannons showrooms, 321 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham, with the auction commencing 7.00pm on Monday.
