Hyundai Continues to Drive New Records
SYDNEY – February 3, 2010: Hyundai has posted a sales result of
6,208 units, its best ever January result since the brand started selling
cars in Australia in 1986. Hyundai’s market share of 8.3% represents
the equal best ever monthly result since the factory established the wholly
owned subsidiary Hyundai Motor Company Australia in 2003.
In a total market that has increased 12% (January YTD 2010 v. January
YTD 2009), Hyundai Motor Company Australia has achieved an overall increase
in sales of 67.7%.
iLoad posted its best ever sales result of 592 units and best ever
market share of 30.8%, ranking first in the van segment in Queensland,
Victoria and Tasmania. Hyundai was also the no. 1 selling brand in
Tasmania.
“The team at Hyundai and the Hyundai Dealer network are thrilled
with the start to 2010,” said Damien Meredith, Hyundai’s
Director of Sales. “This month we launch the all-new ix35 compact SUV
into the Australian market and we have other exciting all-new products on
the way soon.”
Hyundai Motor Company’s global sales also increased 50.4% (January
YTD 2010 v. January YTD 2009). In South Korea, the all-new YF mid-sized
sedan sold 17,464 units, making it the best selling domestic model.

Hyundai’s result in January of 6,208 units (8.3%
share) represents a 67.7% volume increase over its achievement of 3,701
units (5.5% share) in January 2009. iLoad ranked second in the van
segment after posting a sales result of 592 units and a 30.8% market share.
iMax ranked third in the people mover market, posting a sales result of
139 units achieving a 14.6% market share. Tucson ranked third in the
compact SUV segment, posting a sales result of 812 units and a 10.6% market
share. Getz ranked first in the light car segment achieving 1,717
vehicle sales and a 16.5% market share.

Hyundai’s
South Korean domestic sales rose 68.9% to 59,774 units in January from
35,396 units a year earlier, due to a base effect from a year earlier when
consumer demand was the lowest since the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis,
whilst also boosted by the successful launch of new models, ix35 compact
SUV and the all-new YF mid-sized sedan. In South Korea last month the
all-new YF mid-sized sedan, which went on sale in September 2009, sold
13,928 units – making it South Korea’s best selling model.
Total overseas sales, including both exports from South Korea and sales
from overseas plants, rose by 45.9% to 210,067 units in January, up from
143,989 units a year earlier. Exports were up 27.8% in January as
compared to a year earlier. Sales from overseas plants rose 56% percent
to 143,998 units.
