New website offers car buyers the full history on used cars

SYDNEY – March 31, 2010: Veda Advantage’s auto business, Veda Auto, today announced its new consumer vehicle history research tool and website, www.Carhistory.com.au, a must-visit website for Australians when buying a used car.

Carhistory.com.au provides vehicle history checks which improve transparency for consumers and businesses planning to purchase used vehicles by revealing known information about a car’s history.

David Scognamiglio, Head of Veda Auto and Carhistory.com.au, says Veda research shows around 13% of used vehicles checked against the data on the Carhistory site have information that indicates the car is either written-off, stolen or has had flood or water damage.

“Vehicle fraud and dishonest behavior are costing Australians on average four thousand dollars per incident. It’s well worth protecting against financial exposure by running this report before making a final decision. Many people know that they can look for any finance owing on a used car. What most don’t know is how much other information can be tracked, such as whether a car has been written-off or stolen, has had flood or storm damage, or whether the odometer readings are accurate. All this information and more can now be found in one place at Carhistory.com.au,” he said.

Carhistory.com.au brings together extensive data on millions of vehicles from several industry and Government databases. Each report includes: the vehicle details, security interests recorded on the vehicle, a written-off or stolen check, current valuation, odometer checks, sales listings and safety and omission ratings. Reports can be purchased instantly by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and costs $24.95.

Carhistory.com.au has partnered with leading online automotive websites such as eBay Motors, CarsGuide.com.au and CountryCars.com.au, to offer vehicle history checks on individual car listings within each of these websites.

Christian Lucy, Countrycars.com.au General Manager said: “In this day and age being alert or sceptical is just common sense. Doing your vehicle research is part of that. I believe Carhistory.com.au provides an inexpensive solution and gives car buyers peace of mind.”

In addition to detailed and customised used car history reports, Carhistory.com.au provides articles from top motoring journalists, car buying tips, safety information and the latest motoring news, blogs and videos.

The website, which launched as a pilot site www.vedaauto.com six months ago, has already attracted an audience of around 60,000 unique visitors per month and has now been rebranded and expanded to provide more consumer benefits.

Veda Auto will continue to provide monthly Automotive Credit Demand Index reports, which are a predictive measure of automotive sales in Australia and will continue to offer products and services to motor dealers, banks, finance and insurance companies. Veda Auto is a subsidiary business of Veda Advantage, a data and information company. Veda Advantage holds Australia’s largest database of consumer and business credit records.
