CLOVELLY PARK, AUSTRALIA – December 2, 2010: Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has introduced a new model to their popular Lancer small hatch and sedan range, the SX, as part of the 2011 model year update. In addition, a number of interior and exterior specification changes have been made to variants across the range, ensuring the 2011 Lancer family boasts functionality, safety and style.

Across the entire Lancer range, safety is enhanced with an updated brake assist system, along with an improved power window safety system. Comfort and convenience within the cabin is optimised with the fitment of an improved sound insulation system, USB port, colour LCD display and welcome lights on all variants. Bluetooth 2.0 is offered as standard on all Lancer models and i-Pod cables are offered on all variants when coupled with MMCS, making this the sportiest, safest and most functional Lancer range yet.

The new SX model sits comfortably between the ES and the VR variants with a number of specification changes above the ES. Leather steering wheel with audio controls, rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels are standard on the SX with the full range of Mitsubishi paint colours available and the stylish addition of unique SX badging.

MMAL’s president and CEO, Masahiko Takahashi, welcomed the SX to the popular Lancer range.

“The addition of the SX model to the Lancer range offers customers an attractive and economically priced vehicle with high quality safety and functional features,” Takahashi said.

The Lancer SX, ES and VR receive the 2.0-litre dual overhead cam MIVEC four-cylinder engine which delivers 113kW of power @ 6000 rpm and 198 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm. VRX variants and the Aspire sedan receive the 2.4-litre engine, which generates 125 kW of power @ 6,000 rpm and 226 Nm of torque @ 4,100 rpm. Lancer Ralliart variants feature the Lancer Evolution’s inter-cooled and turbo-charged 2.0-litre MIVEC engine, unchanged from the previous model, which delivers 177kW @ 6,000rpm and 343 Nm of torque @ 2500 - 4,750 rpm.

The Lancer range represents the pinnacle in small sedan safety standards and all variants bear the latest Mitsubishi safety technology. ASTC is standard across the range, as is ABS, EBD and BA. A total of seven airbags is standard on all Mitsubishi Lancers, providing a five-star ANCAP safety rating – all models receive SRS driver and passenger airbags, driver knee airbag and side and curtain airbags as standard.

Unchanged from the previous model year, available colour choices across the range include Champagne, Cool Silver, Mystic Blue, Lightning Blue, Effect Grey, Red, Black and White in ES, VR and VRX models, with Aspire available in Champagne, White, Red, Cool silver, Effect Grey and Black. Lancer Ralliart models are available in Red, Black, Cool Silver, White and Lightning Blue. SX, ES, VR, VRX and Ralliart models are available with a sedan or Sportback body, with the premium Aspire offered solely as a sedan.

“With 11 variants, the Lancer range has a model to suit any style or budget. And with the addition of the new SX variant, the Lancer line-up can offer customers style, functionality, efficiency, safety and power without breaking the bank”, said Takahashi.

A comprehensive five year/130,000 km whole vehicle warranty, backed up by a 10 year/160,000 km powertrain warranty and a five year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance package, ensure industry leading warranty on all Lancer vehicles.

The Lancer SX, ES, VR, VRX and Aspire are available now at over 200 Mitsubishi dealerships Australia-wide, with the Ralliart available from specialised dealerships only.
