National Coalition for Safer Roads Missouri Statewide Poll Results

WASHINGTON-- Feb. 23, 2011: New research from the National Coalition for Safer Roads shows that Missouri's registered voters overwhelmingly support the use of red light safety cameras. The poll found that 71% support the cameras at dangerous intersections, with 47% saying they "strongly support" the cameras.

"It's clear that Missouri voters believe that drivers in the state are more careful when they know red light safety cameras are working to protect intersections," said Public Opinion Strategies Partner and Missouri native Neil Newhouse. "They believe what other studies are showing that these cameras make roads safer, help prevent accidents and save lives."

The Public Opinion Strategies poll also found that the majority of voters incorrectly believed their neighbors oppose the cameras, by a 56%-30% margin.

"Most Missourians believe their neighbors oppose red light cameras. They couldn't be more wrong," Newhouse said.
