WHY: Every year, more than 5,500 people in the United States die in distracted driving crashes, and almost 450,000 are injured. Illinois officials, together with federal leaders, are taking the lead on this very important issue by engaging key experts to determine how best to reduce motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers. Speakers include:
 

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton

Illinois Representative John D'Amico

 
Leading experts in a variety of fields will discuss the science behind distracted driving; legislative and law enforcement topics; medical prevention and how to engage schools, teens and parents in this critical issue.
Local victims affected by distracted driving crashes will be available for media interviews. Keynote speakers and panelists will be available for interviews at their discretion.
