SmartDrive Systems Awarded Blanket Purchase Agreement Contract from US General Services Administration

SAN DIEGO--April 27, 2011: SmartDrive Systems, a leader in fleet safety and operational efficiency, has been awarded Blanket Purchase Agreement #GS-30F-BPA03, effective April 7, 2011, by the US General Services Administration, for the purchase of SmartDrive in-vehicle video recorders and driver feedback systems.

The SmartDrive system uses video, audio and ECU-connected vehicle data sensors to detect and record risky and erratic driving maneuvers such as sudden stops, hard cornering, aggressive acceleration, and excessive speed.  This provides instant feedback to drivers, using a system of LED lights to signal fuel-wasting driving maneuvers.  As a result, drivers learn to drive more fuel efficiently, saving significant fuel -- and tax dollars -- and reducing carbon emissions.

The SmartDrive system video device, triggered by speeding and erratic driving, captures events before and after risky incidents to reveal the root causes of what happened. Recorded data is downloaded wirelessly and sent to professional safety analysts who categorize and score the events according to 50+ safety observations. Fleet managers then use these results to improve fleet performance and overall driving safety, resulting in up to an 80% reduction in collisions.
