WASHINGTON--May 2, 2011: Mobile technology is being deployed in numerous ways to make transportation safer, easier and more convenient for Americans. In CTIA's May "Wonder of Wireless" (WOW) webcast and blog CTIA Blog, the association features stories on "intelligent transportation" and the impact wireless is having on the next generation of vehicles and drivers. By powering applications that control fleet management, vehicle diagnostics and communications and entertainment systems, the transportation industry is improving its operations and making its products safer. These developments are a vivid illustration of the industry's virtuous cycle of innovation, and why the need for more spectrum to fuel this cycle is more important than ever.

In this month's Wireless at Work, CTIA talks with Ford Motor Company's Technology Communications Manager Alan Hall, who demonstrates how Ford is integrating wireless technology, such as voice control, into its cars to help keep drivers from being distracted while on the road.

The May Industry Insider features TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. Senior VP/SMO Tim Lorello, who describes how mobile technology helps drivers avoid traffic and be more aware of their car's mechanical needs.

The wireless industry is making transportation more efficient and safer in several innovative ways. In this month's Policy Point, CTIA showcases wireless technologies and explains why more spectrum is needed to develop new products and services for drivers and others on the road.

Finally, the May Wireless Lifesaver features Jacob Ratliff, a seven-year-old who was one day in the car when his mother became ill and fainted. Thanks to Jacob's quick-thinking to use his mom's cellphone to contact 911, emergency medical technicians took action that quite possibly saved his mother's life.
