Alcoa, CCIEE Announce Memorandum of Understanding to Increase Global Cooperation

BEIJING, China--May 12, 2011: Alcoa and the China Center for International Economic Exchange (CCIEE) announced today that they will collaborate on a number of substantive issues ranging from economic development to environmental protection.

“This MoU will make substantial progress on this front.”

This is the first such agreement between CCIEE and a Western corporation.

The agreement was signed in Beijing by Alcoa Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Klaus Kleinfeld and CCIEE Secretary General Wei Jianguo.

“This is an important step in bilateral research cooperation,” Kleinfeld said. “Companies like Alcoa are part of the solution to today’s energy and environmental issues in China and around the world. By sharing best practices and leveraging our respective human and technological capital, we can achieve great successes.”

Wei added, “CCIEE is dedicated to producing impactful research and policy recommendations. This MoU marks an important step for CCIEE, as partnering with a sustainable global company like Alcoa will greatly enhance CCIEE’s global influence.”

The MoU will build on the initiatives already underway between Alcoa and CCIEE. The cooperation will be conducted through a special task force that will facilitate information sharing and regular meetings between the parties. Further, Alcoa and CCIEE will strengthen cooperation in the field of advisory and consulting.

“Alcoa and CCIEE understand that the world's environmental challenges can best be met by the people of the U.S. and China working together,” CCIEE Chairman Zeng Peiyan said. "This MoU will make substantial progress on this front."
