DETROIT--Sept. 6, 2011: Travelers asked OnStar for navigation help getting to airports more than any other destination during Labor Day weekend when a record of more than 330,000 requests came in through blue button presses.

The traffic represented a 37-percent increase over 2010 and was the third year in a row OnStar experienced a big jump in navigation requests.

Somewhat predictably, hotels, gas stations, restaurants and malls rounded out the Top 5 requested destinations. Wal-Mart was the most requested specific destination followed by Starbucks, McDonalds, Target and Home Depot.

"OnStar delivers more than 2 million turn-by-turn requests every month to our subscribers," said Joanne Finnorn, OnStar executive director subscriber services. "This weekend alone, we received almost 90,000 more navigation requests compared to Labor Day Weekend 2010, which shows us that more people each year seem to be heading out on the road."

Since 1996, OnStar has been an in-vehicle lifeline for those in need, building on more than 15 years of service and more than 400 million customer interactions. Today, there are more than 6 million OnStar subscribers in North America and China.
