DENVER—October 19, 2011: Cartasite, a Colorado technology corporation, and EnCana USA Inc., a well-recognized energy company, will announce results of a multi-year program to improve driver safety. Utilizing new technology and an innovative scoring system designed to encourage safe driver behavior, EnCana has been able to dramatically reduce motor vehicle incidents (MVI), fuel consumption, and environmental impact. Cartasite has developed a simple instrumentation system that can measure subtle driving patterns that relate directly to crash risk. This patent-pending system provides feedback to the driver that encourages responsible and efficient vehicle operations.

“The bottom line, it's all about saving lives.”

EnCana and Cartasite will share publicly the results of a multi-year study at two large conferences in the next several weeks. EnCana has a remarkable driving safety program and has meticulously maintained records dating back a number of years. Analysis of this historical data has revealed that as a direct result of this new innovative program, motor vehicle crashes have dropped by over 54% in the past 18 months.

Over 40% of all injuries and fatalities in the energy industry are attributed to vehicular operations (Retzer, et. Al, NIOSH, 2011). It has also been well documented that safe, conservative drivers consume far less fuel. Sandia Labs has declared that the fuel economy may be improved by over 20% simply by driving more conservatively.

Several years ago, EnCana funded a large-scale research project called DrivingChange designed to encourage safe, responsible driver behavior. Cartasite developed the technology used to instrument the vehicles and process the data. Drivers from the City and County of Denver fleet, with strong support from then-Mayor John Hinkenlooper, were the primary participants. This year-long study proved that it was possible to measure subtle patterns of driving behavior that directly affect fuel economy, crash risk, and carbon emissions. Most importantly, the scoring system which Cartasite developed was remarkably effective in promoting safer, more conservative behavior behind the wheel. As a direct result of this research program, EnCana adopted the technology and deployed it on their entire commercial fleet. The results have exceeded expectations.

According to Colonel Mark Trostel (ret.), former head of the Colorado State Patrol and now Director of Driving Safety at EnCana, "The bottom line, it's all about saving lives." Of course, the bottom line matters as well. In another large-scale study, the Cartasite technology has reduced fuel consumption by over a gallon per vehicle per day - all while saving lives, money, and our planet.

Cartasite, a Colorado Corporation, was formed in 2004 with the goal of delivering practical technology solutions that enhance safety, security, and operating efficiency for corporations worldwide. Cartasite's customers rely on the company's realtime monitoring systems to produce results that impact their bottom line, save lives and protect their assets.
