FYI: Mercedes-Benz Buyer's Guide

MONTVALE, NJ--Oct. 27, 2011: Nearly two hundred Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) employees recently took part in a day of community service supporting Clean Ocean Action -- an organization dedicated to improving the degraded water quality of the marine waters off the New Jersey/New York coast. This effort was part of MBUSA's year-long celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the invention of the automobile, during which the company and its employees are partnering to reach their goal of 125 acts of collective community service in 2011.

In this instance, the employees visited Sandy Hook Gateway National Park in Highlands, NJ over a period of two days to conduct beach sweeps throughout the park's various shorelines, both picking up and recording items found, helping to identify sources of pollution -- collecting 12,720 pieces in total. The beach sweeps also incorporated an educational orientation program about the importance of protecting tidal rivers and bays from pollutants as well as time to review results at the end of the sweep activity. In addition to employee time, $11,000 was donated in funds.

"Mercedes-Benz has a rich history of environmental sensitivity and innovation, and we're excited about this very special partnership and opportunity -- right in our backyard here in New Jersey," stated Lisa Rosenfeld, general manger, human resources, MBUSA. "What better way is there to celebrate 125 years of Mercedes-Benz heritage than by doing 'the right thing.' This was a success and a great learning experience for everyone involved."

"The Mercedes-Benz team showed their 'can-do' community spirit by ridding beaches of plastic debris. This debris not only makes our beaches unattractive, but it is harmful to marine life through entanglement or ingestion," stated Cindy Zipf, Executive Director, Clean Ocean Action. "Clearly, Mercedez-Benz's commitment to high standards and beautiful products extends to improving the quality of our beaches. Their financial contribution was most helpful and seeing volunteers working hard, even in the rain, was impressive and inspirational," she added.
