SCOTTSDALE, AZ--Nov. 3, 2011: Strong third-quarter activity by Road Safety Camera market leader American Traffic Solutions was fueled by both the addition of new customers and the retention and expansion of existing customers. ATS was given 19 new contracts in July through September for an additional 249 red-light or speed safety cameras bringing the Q1-Q3 total to 76 new customers accounting for nearly 700 new road safety cameras.

Nine customers with a total of 162 cameras chose to renew their contracts with ATS in the third quarter, while five existing customers selected to expand their programs by as many as 38 cameras and five cities signed agreements with the company, for up to 49 cameras. ATS lists nearly 300 communities as its customers. On average, for the year, ATS has contracted for nearly 230 cameras in each quarter. The quarterly record for 2011 thus far is 274 cameras contracted from April through June.

"We are honored that so many communities continue to sign new contracts with ATS and so many existing customers continue to renew their existing contracts," ATS president and CEO James Tuton said. "Our products help communities expand their services at a time when they are being asked to do more with less. We look forward to supporting our new customers as they implement their Road Safety Camera Programs, which have shown time and again to reduce violations, collisions, injuries and fatalities by changing driver behavior."

Of the five new contracts, Piscataway, N.J., is the largest with up to 21 cameras. St. Louis, Mo., with 51 cameras is the largest existing customer to renew its contract. Miami, Fla., agreed to expand its program by as many as 26 cameras, making it the largest expansion contract of the quarter. The remaining new customers of the quarter include: Miami Springs, Fla., and the New Jersey townships of Berlin, Bound Brook and Little Falls.
